My Cousin Rachel

My Cousin Rachel
by: Daphne Du Maurier

Amazon description: Orphaned at an early age, Philip Ashley is raised by his benevolent older cousin, Ambrose. Resolutely single, Ambrose delights in Philip as his heir, a man who will love his grand home as much as he does himself. But the cozy world the two construct is shattered when Ambrose sets off on a trip to Florence. There he falls in love and marries—and there he dies suddenly.

Jealous of his marriage, racked by suspicion at the hints in Ambrose's letters, and grief-stricken by his death, Philip prepares to meet his cousin's widow with hatred in his heart.

Despite himself, Philip is drawn to this beautiful, sophisticated, mysterious Rachel like a moth to the flame. And yet . . . might she have had a hand in Ambrose's death?

I am not sure what I thought of this story. I really enjoyed the majority of the book. It just took a really interesting turn in the last couple of chapters. It was not where I thought the story was going at all. It really was kind of dark.

This book was originally written in 1951. It has two film adaptations of it. One in 1952 and the other in 2017.

I listened to this one on audible.

Kissing for Keeps

 Kissing for Keeps
by Martha Keyes

Siena hasn't had the best of luck with dating. She hasn't had the best of luck in her career either. So to distract herself she helps plan her best friends wedding in France. But now she is planning it with her friends brother.

Jack has been known to be a player. He use to date his sisters friend and then they broke up and it caused a whole bunch of drama and his sister losing a friend.

He and Siena have a secret that they have kept to themselves for seven years trying to keep the peace.

Two weeks in France pulling a wedding together. What could go wrong?

This one was such a fun one to listen too. I listened to this one on audible. One thing that was really fun was that they had a  girl narrator for the Siena and a guy narrator for Jack. This is the first book that I listened two that had two narrators. It was fun because you really got to hear the voice influxes like you would if you were speaking to someone. I feel like it also helped to build better connections with each of the characters.

The Dread Penny Society

 The Dread Penny Society
The complete Penny Dreadful Collection
by Sarah M Eden

When I first started reading the dread Penny society series and I encountered the short stories with in a story it threw me off. I hadn’t ever read anything like that. But the more I read the more I really started to love them. I remember thinking it would be so nice if these stories were all just together so that I could read them straight through and easily go back to read things I may have missed or forgotten. So when Sarah announced that she was going to be placing all the short stories into one book i es so excited!

Now they are easily read and reread. The three new stories I loved. I especially loved the last two. I wound have to say they were my favorite of them all. If you lived the Dread Penny Society series then you are going to love reading all the shorts together. The book is gorgeous too. I did receive a digital advance reader copy of this book but recently purchased and donated reading it in the hardback copy.
